Legal Matters:Obtain
Tax ID
obtain tax id
Now, when your business
is officially filed you must obtain
an Employer Identification
Number (EIN) is also known as a federal tax
identification number, and is used to identify a
business entity.
Most online services
will charge $25-$45 for obtaining Tax ID for you.
But you can avoid unnecessary expenses and easily
get an EIN within
minutes by calling the Tele-TIN phone number for your
state.
Follow these 2 easy
steps:
Step 1. Download and
complete from
SS-4
(PDF format). You can also save the form on your
computer without opening it: just right-click on the
link and choose 'Save Target As'.
Step 2. Locate
the IRS Tele-Tin telephone number for the area in which
you live.

Early
morning is the best time to call: often the IRS gets
busy during the day. Have a completed SS-4 form in
front of you. If you're in the rush (for example,
you need to
open a checking account), don't forget to point that you
need your EIN immediately.
The IRS
representative will process your application over the
telephone and assign you the EIN. Write this number in
the upper right hand corner of your application.
Sign and date your completed application form, then fax
it to a special fax number you'll receive from IRS
representative. Remember, that you must fax your
application within 24 hours, or the IRS might cancel
your application.
You
will receive a formal confirmation notice from the IRS a
few weeks later.
